About Sochi

I was born to Nigerian parents in Cincinnati, OH and raised in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. I am a bilingual engineer, educator, writer with vast experience as a logistics coordinator and project manager.

My passions revolve around scientific and environmental research, education that promotes critical thinking, writing to create compelling stories and joining efforts with non-profit organizations to create sustainable communities.

My Education

After pursuing a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and minor in Environmental Engineering, I decided to obtain a master's of arts degree in English Education with a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). Both degrees were attained with the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez, in 2021 and 2024.

During my baccalaureate years, I conducted meaningful agricultural, environmental, chemical engineering research in my alma mater and other prestigious institutions, such as University of New York at Buffalo and Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY. I have presented posters in professional conferences in Puerto Rico and USA.

I also hold over a decade's worth of experience with tutoring (English and Spanish languages, algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, biology, chemistry, physics, among other subject matters) for all grade levels, including college freshmen and sophomores. As a master's student, I taught Basic English, Intermediate English, and Science Communication courses for second-language learners. My research was conducted in my Science Communication classroom, where my students learned the importance of critical thinking and interdisciplinary research.

Community Engagement

For over 3 years, I worked as a logistics coordinator for the National Hispanic Environmental Council (NHEC), a policy, programmatic, and advocacy organization that provides STEM career opportunities for Latinos and other minority groups. I planned, organized and managed the day-to-day operations of logistics for intensive residential 10-day institutes in Southern California, New York-New Jersey and New Mexico.

I actively collaborate with New Family Church, a bilingual non-profit entity, in Añasco, Puerto Rico. For more than 4 years, I've planned numerous conferences and special events that reaches various audiences in distinct settings. I have taken on various roles, such as translator, logistics coordinator, script writer and children's camp director. This organization not only impacts communities across the island, but nations such as Bolivia and Peru.

Multicultural Experiences

I have traveled across most municipalities in Puerto Rico and the USA. In recent times, I have visited Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Brazil for outreach purposes with religious organizations and entities. My exposure to multicultural communities has enriched my perspective as a storyteller and strengthened my resolve to foster meaningful cross-cultural dialogue.

For close to a year, I worked in Communication Services at Andrew Wommack Ministries, a religious organization in Woodland Park, CO. Right now, I am working alongside the Missions Department at Charis Bible College as an intern. My role within the department is to assist in planning, organizing and coordinating over 30 international trips for over 500+ students.
